How to Apply
In line with RRI equity, diversity, and inclusivity principles, this year's applications will undergo a partial blinding process, whereby the name and e-mail fields in the application will be hidden from the hiring Scientists. However, if identifying information is included in your cover letter or other documents, this may not undergo blinding. Upon successful submission of an application, a confirmation number will be provided but NO confirmation email will be sent.
To apply, click on the "Create Application" link below. The following documents will be required in plain text format:
-
An up-to-date resume or CV, including permanent and sessional addresses and the name and contact information of two referees (academic preferred).
-
A cover letter which includes the area of research you are interested in and the Scientist(s) with whom you would like to work.
-
Current transcripts or grade reports (unofficial or 'issued to student' versions accepted). Note that applicants must copy and paste the text of the transcript into the provided application form - upload of a PDF is not available at this time.
Scientists' research interests may be reviewed on the Baycrest Website here.
Please note that the online portal will close on February 27, 2026.
We thank all trainees for their interest in research at Baycrest. Please note that only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

1. I recently completed my undergraduate degree and am not currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program. Am I still eligible to apply to the Summer Student Program?
Unfortunately, you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the program. You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or medical student.
2. I am a recent graduate seeking experience in a medical and research setting. Am I eligible to apply to the Summer Student Program?
Unfortunately, you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the program.
3. I am not able to participate in the full 12 weeks, but I am still very interested in applying. Are there any flexible options or alternatives available?
This request is contingent upon the scientist’s approval. Please include this information in your cover letter.
4. I see options for only two scientists on the form. Will additional scientists be added at a later date?
Other scientists may choose to hire at a later time and will have access to the submitted applications. To be considered by these scientists, applicants must indicate their interest in working with others in their application form.
5. Do I need to submit a separate cover letter for each scientist I am interested in working with?
No, your cover letter should reference the scientists you are applying to.
6. I submitted my application but realized I made an error in my references. Am I able to update this information?
Applications can’t be edited by the applicant after submission. Please email us (training@research.baycrest.org) the correct reference information so that we can update it manually.
7. I submitted my application but did not receive a confirmation number. Could you confirm whether my application went through?
Upon successful submission, a confirmation number will appear on your screen. If you did not receive one, please try one of the following options to re-submit your application:
a) Try another browser, such as Edge or Safari.
b) Paste your text into an editor like Notepad or TextEdit, then copy once more from this intermediary before pasting into the web form. This should strip away everything except plain A–Z characters. The same can be accomplished by pasting the text into a word processor like MS Word and saving it as a basic .txt format. Close and re-open the file in an editor like Notepad or TextEdit; this will only contain plain A–Z characters. Then copy only from this intermediary before pasting into the form.
If the problem still persists, please send us an email at the address below for further assistance.
8. Given that the portal closes at the end of February, will the selection process commence at that time, or will it begin immediately as applications are received?
Applicants are reviewed and selected on a rolling basis.
